Help to preserve the natural landscape of the Pedrógão Grande area, say NO to the installation of photovoltaic panels on the Zêzere River!
They are planning the installation of photovoltaic panels on the Zêzere River, in the Pedrógão Grande area, over the water line, which covers an expected area of 35.00 hectares!
The installation of photovoltaic panels in the reservoir of the Cabril dam could compromise the preservation of one of the region's greatest natural and landscape heritage.
The Cabril dam is not just a water reservoir; It is a space for leisure, tourism, biodiversity and a vital source for the local economy!
This installation will eliminate the attractiveness factor of this area as well as all its tourist potential.
It additionally leaves many questions about the environmental impact, with regard to the abnormal warming of the waters of that river and impact on biodiversity.
The reservoir is also collecting water for public consumption in the municipalities near Pedrógão Grande and further downstream the source of water consumption in the district of Lisbon.
Although it is important to encourage renewable energies, this type of project must be planned responsibly, considering alternatives that do not harm the surrounding nature, the quality of the water, aquatic ecosystems and the tourist vocation of the area. There are other installation options for photovoltaic panels that do not entail harm to the environment or the well-being of local communities.
Preserving Cabril is to ensure a sustainable and balanced future for our region. We ask the authorities to reassess this project and look for solutions that respect the environmental and social value of the Cabril dam.
According to Article 66 of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic,
-
Everyone has the right to a humane, healthy and ecologically balanced living environment and the duty to defend it.
-
In order to ensure the right to the environment, within the framework of sustainable development, it is incumbent upon the State, through its own bodies and with the involvement and participation of citizens:
-
To prevent and control pollution and its effects and harmful forms of erosion;
-
To organize and promote spatial planning, with a view to the correct location of activities, a balanced socio-economic development and the enhancement of the landscape;
-
To create and develop natural and recreational reserves and parks, as well as to classify and protect landscapes and sites, in order to ensure the conservation of nature and the preservation of cultural values of historical or artistic interest;
-
To promote the rational use of natural resources, safeguarding their capacity for renewal and ecological stability, with respect for the principle of solidarity between generations;
It is in this context that this group of citizens decided to act to prevent this environmental and landscape crime.
We therefore call for the greatest attention to be paid to this case in the legal, ecological, environmental, tourist and economic spheres
